This six item collection consists of a ledger list and letters written to Peter Dudley. They concern bringing timber to Frankfort, Kentucky, for the rebuilding of a bridge that spanned the Kentucky River. The ledger is a listing of timber bought for that purpose. Three letters were written by Lewis Wernwag and two by Sherman Day. Mr. Wernwag's letters discuss the difficulty he was having navigating the timber down rivers to Frankfort. Mr. Day's first letter discusses why the bridge collapsed and how to correct the problem when it is rebuilt. The second letter is a response to a letter Dudley sent him. Dudley felt Day would renege on compensation for the bridge collapse. Day defends his position by saying he was trying to raise the money.

Peter Dudley was a prominent citizen of Frankfort, Kentucky. Dudley served as Adjutant General for Kentucky from 1829-1851, and was also one of the commissioners appointed in 1827 to oversee the building of the third state capitol.
